Our origin story

When you make a little boy a promise and it turns into a family business.

We already had a very well-established 75-gallon tank with a lonely catfish—and a three-year-old who wanted him to have some friends. So we gave our son the opportunity to earn a reward. He was determined to earn it as quickly as possible, and within a week, he did just that.

Fast-forward almost two months. With a potential case of MTS (multiple tank syndrome), A LOT more fish in our home, and a growing fascination with breeding and fish care, here we are… taking a crazy chance. It turns out Mom and Dad really love the fish too!

One aquarium quickly became more. We added tanks as our stock and selection grew, giving breeding pairs, fry, and growing juveniles the space and attention they needed. Each new setup taught us more about water quality, feeding, behavior, compatibility, and what it takes to raise fish responsibly.

What began as choosing a few new friends for one lonely catfish grew into a working family fish room. We started planning breeding projects, raising our own batches, and building a more varied selection of freshwater fish—while keeping room to observe each group carefully before it is offered to a new home.

Our passion ignited an idea, that idea created a vision, and that vision became Freshwater Freaks. Today, we are building a family-run Idaho breeding program around healthy starts, honest listings, useful care information, and a growing selection of fish we are genuinely excited to raise. From our family full of fish freaks to yours.
